Relex keeps jobs in Greensburg Posted: 16 Jun 2010 05:53 PM PDT A computer software company has opted to stay in Westmoreland County rather than move to Monroeville or Pittsburgh, which saved the Greensburg area about 50 jobs. Relex Software Corp., a unit of Parametric Technology Corp. of Boston, moved this week from offices in Hempfield to 10,000 square feet of space on three floors of the Stark/James Building in downtown Greensburg. Relex signed a five-year lease with the Westmoreland Cultural Trust, the non-profit organization that owns the building, said Michael Langer, president of the Trust. "We wanted to stay in the Greensburg area. We tried to minimize the disruption to the work force," said Kenneth Stillwell, director of operations for Relex, which develops computer software that allows designers and engineers to test and improve product safety and reliability. The company was seeking space because its lease at two buildings in Hempfield expired on June 30. The challenge became finding suitable office space for 50 employees, Stillwell said. Parametric has specific requirements for office space it rents and wants it to conform to its other offices, Stillwell said. Relex, which Parametric purchased in June 2009, considered sites in Monroeville and the Pittsburgh area, Stillwell said. "The key for us was to be able to provide a turnkey package," Langer said. Sufficient space in the building became available when the Westmoreland County Historical Society agreed to move in April, six months before its lease expired, thus freeing up about 4,500 square feet, Langer said. The remaining space was vacant. An architect designed office space on the three floors that fit their needs, Langer said. Kacin General Contractors has been remodeling the space for three months, and continued to work this week as employees moved in, Langer said. The issue of finding parking in downtown Greensburg was solved by the Trust leasing spacing in a city-owned lot, Langer said. First Commonwealth Bank restructured the Trust's existing mortgage and provided financing so that it was able to pay for remodeling costs that are more than $400,000, Langer said.
